PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Parents/Guardians,
School has been in session for one month and we had a good start to another challenging school year. I’m proud to announce that Salt Lake Elementary School has met our Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 8th year in a row. Our status is “In Good Standing, Unconditional”; the highest possible status a school can receive. After a year of furloughs and loss of instructional time, our teachers and students worked hard to maintain our high standards of excellence.
Some of our goals for this school year are:
· Meeting AYP 2010-2011 goals of 72% (Reading) and 64% (Math)
· Fully implementing SLES Balanced Literacy Program
· Fully implementing the new Math Programs
· Integrating “Thinking Maps” in all content areas
· Students self-assessing own work by using criteria, rubric, and descriptive feedback
· Focusing on “struggling” learners with intervention programs
· Involving parents in their child’s learning
· Implementing integrated Science/Content Units
We need the total team effort of our hard working teachers, staff, and you, our parents. A commitment from everyone in our school’s community is what we need to reach our goals. I would like to thank the parents who took the time to attend our Open House on August 17, 2010. We appreciate your continued commitment to become part of your child’s education.
We look forward to another successful school year.
Sincerely,
Duwayne F. Abe
Principal
